Written and reviewed by Dr Ibrahim Imam, Consultant Neurologist. Last reviewed .

Hereditary spastic paraplegia type 20 (SPG20). This is caused by mutations in the spartin (SPERTIN) gene on chromosome 13q.

Genetics

  • This is caused by mutations in the spartin (SPERTIN) gene on chromosome 13q
  • The transmission is autosomal recessive
  • It may be associated with cytochrome C oxidase deficiency
