Cerebral aneurysms treatment: coil embolisation

Written and reviewed by Dr Ibrahim Imam, Consultant Neurologist. Last reviewed .

Cerebral aneurysms treatment: coil embolisation. Incomplete aneurysm occlusion, Aneurysm recurrence. Fully referenced neurology checklist.

Complications

  • Incomplete aneurysm occlusion
  • Aneurysm recurrence
  • Aneurysm re-rupture
  • Delayed leukoencephalopathy
  • Intra-procedural re-rupture (IPR): this increases the risks of hydrocephalus and vasospasm
  • Delayed recurrent enhancing white matter lesions
  • Headache: this is more with stent than non-stent assisted procedures
